How to Add Whipped Coffee to Your Morning
It’s as easy as whipping together just 3 ingredients!
The past year has been an extremely different one for all of us. With the instruction to stay at home, many of us have taken to experimenting in the kitchen, and it has definitely worked out for the best when it comes to new recipes that have appeared on the Internet! One of these new, popular recipes is whipped coffee.
If you haven’t heard of this trendy drink yet, it’s basically a delicious, foamy, sweet coffee drink that goes perfectly with a breakfast of pancakes or waffles. It has been described as the ice cream of coffee drinks and it’s as easy as whipping together just three ingredients that you may already have in your house.
1. Coffee Powder
One of those ingredients is instant coffee powder. This may or may not be something that you get regularly at the store. If instant coffee isn’t on your shopping list, you can make some at home with whole coffee beans. It’s not difficult at all to turn those beans into a powder to prepare them for this delicious drink. All you need is a grinder and a fine-mesh strainer.
To make the powder, just add the beans to the grinder and grind at the finest setting possible. Place your sifter over a bowl and pour the coffee grounds into it. Any grounds that are left in the sifter after you sift them into the bowl, should be put right back into the grinder for another round. Do this until it’s as fine as possible. When you prepare coffee powder like this, you can make as much as you would like and it will stay fresh (when properly stored) for 7-10 days.
This method of preparing instant coffee is a little different from the kind of instant coffee you would buy at the store, but it will work just about as well. All you need to do is put a teaspoon or so of this powder into a mug, pour hot water over it, and stir. At the end of the mug, you may find a few small grinds at the bottom that are distasteful, but the rest of the coffee is delicious, and you won’t have to worry about this at all when you use this powder to make whipped coffee.
2. Whipped Coffee
Now that you have your powder, it’s time to make your whipped coffee! It takes only three simple ingredients to prepare the first step and only two more to finish it off. You’ll want to start off with 2 tablespoons of hot water, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 2 tablespoons of your instant coffee powder. Put them all together and get out your whisk. If you think you’re handy enough with a whisk, then go ahead and mix it up manually, but most people will find it easier to use an electric mixer! After a few minutes, it’ll start to get fluffy, light, and airy, almost like magic!
Once you have the whipped coffee prepared, get a glass out, put some ice cubes in there, and pour in some milk. (For some extra flavor, mix in a teaspoon of La Española Gourmet Extra Virgin Olive Oil into the milk!) Then just put a dollop of your whipped coffee on top and slowly stir to incorporate the milk.
When it’s all together you’ll have a delicious, cold, sweet drink that is great for any time of the day, but perfect for those mornings when you need a boost just a little stronger than caffeine alone can give you.
